Mecca is the bithplace of the prophet Muhammad and is the most sacred city in Islam. Every Muslim must make a pilgrimage to Mecca once in their lifetimes, this pilgrimage is called a Hajj. Also, when Muslims pray, they must always be facing Mecca, no matter where they are.
