Ramadan

Ramadan is a month when adult Muslims are required to fast. The fast begins each day at dawn and goes until sunset. Muslims are forbidden to eat, drink, and smoke during this time. It occurs during the ninth month of the Islamic year, which was chosen because it was the first month that the prophet Muhammed recieved his first revelation from Allah, the Islamic God.

My neighbor observes Ramadam and I knew she fasted, but I never gave it anymore thought. I never bothered to ask her why her religion required fasting, all I could think about it how hungry she must be. But now I understand why she can't eat and drink and next time I see her maybe I'll be able to talk to her about it! Thanks!
